Are you a summer hill walker looking to gain skills and
confidence for venturing out into winter walking / mountaineering or have
limited experience in the winter but looking at improving or refreshing on
skills, knowledge and techniques?
This course will be held in the Lake
District, based out of the YHA hostel in Glenridding and run by trained Mountain Leaders with extensive experience climbing and
mountaineering in the UK and abroad.
Skills covered –
Ice axes and crampons - their type and use,
choosing the right one.
Movement – Using axes and crampons, different
techniques – including ice axe arrest.
Navigation – map and compass work.
Emergency shelters.
Avalanches – assessment, types and how to
minimise risk.
Understanding and interpreting the weather.
We will then consolidate all these skills on the second
day on a mini expedition covering a mix of terrain and putting the skills to good use.
Thanks,
The Aspire2Summit team.
